Other than the Fat Five sites (facebook, youtube, digg, delicious, wikipedia), I am finding lots of new and interesting web communities that are just now starting to bust out. Here's a list of 6 recent ones that I've been spending too much time with:
- Mixx (a new digg -- and supposedly a friendlier community than digg. Have you trolled the comments on digg lately? Seems smothered in vitriol.)
- Scribd (a place to post and search documents of almost any kind. I find it amazing to see the amount of information people will share. No signup required to post and search documents. I use this site to search out eBooks for my eBook Reader)
- Instructables (user-submitted tutorials on almost anything. I could see something like this for technical folks that would be real interesting -- especially if you add in peer tutoring. If you need to know how to fix something around the house, skim this site first -- and be the hero to your loved one when you become Mr/Mrs Fixit!)
- WikiHow (more how-to stuff... but you can edit these if you find easier/better solutions)
- SideReel (a search engine for entertainment. You can watch some of the stuff you find online [DRM be damned])
- Wisdm (ask a question... any question. You'll be stunned to see how open and honest others will be -- that is if you believe em... go ahead answer some yourself too!)
